The One Where I Remind You Kill Bill Vol. 2 Is Underrated
Vol. 2 has an audacious opening. First we get a redux version of "Do you find me sadistic?". Then, Uma breaks the fourth wall. Direct to camera, she explains wheres she's heading, in startling black and white. The music already suggests a western. Kill Bill Vol.1, this ain't.
Then, we start where we should have started before, at the Chapel.
With musical nods, to "Bang, Bang".
I get that people find Vol. 2 a bit of a slow burner... but I think that's
unfair. How do you follow this up?
<< ^ That, by the way, is the original uncut version. Going B&W
in our version is v cool, but was actually a decision by censors. Idiots>>
So how do you follow that?
Michael Bay would go bigger. But that doesn't necessarily mean better.
Kill Bill is a character piece. We spend time getting to know Budd.
If we didn't, most people would say he was just another card board cut out
villain. Do spend more time, people get bored. QT knows this, so flicks the
V's, and does it his way.
We do get the campfire chat between Bill and Beatrix, as she's finally
called. We get the caravan fight between Beatrix and Elle. We get some
great lines. Then we get a finale that plays out in the total opposite of out
expectations. No swordplay here.
QT keeps teasing that Vol. 3 could play out. Elle's still kicking around in
the caravan isn't she? I would love it. Of course, what most fans would
love more, is Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Saga. Both films, edited into one,
with all of the missing footage, and some chunks taken out. QT knows it's
the Holy Grail for fans, so he'll keep us waiting. Did we ever truly think we
would get Inglorious Basterds, though? We did though... didn't we?
Seeing Madsen in this, and the shocking luck Travolta is having at the
moment... bring on The Vega Brothers, while you're at it.
I've got 2 hours until Team Truscott get back... I might watch Death Proof,
and "ruin it all". ;-)
