The One Where I Get Into The KillZone3

I haven't written anything on here for ages.

It's links to all of my Live For Films stuff, or reviews by GC. Some videos of ET,that are for Mum and him more than anyone.

But something is urging me to write again.

Kill Zone 3.

I love(d) Black Ops more than anyone. Being pretty good at it helped, but I love(d) the game so much. I love(d) turning on my PS3 and seeing that my mates (read: Ledgers) were on it.

Now, with the new maps due on Wednesday/Thursday/Whenever/Meh, I'm not sure I am even going to get them.

The deal was, get the new maps, then trade it in in a month when I get my Bonus/3D TV.

Things changed.

I read reviews.

I played the demo.

So I got it yesterday, and more importantly, have this (below) on it's way. That means I'll be able to play the game via the gun, (the second controller is on the handle - see?)

That, plus the 3D TV, means Black Ops is destined to gather dust.

I won't trade it in yet, as I probably will get the maps, plus it's 3D enabled, so I'm intrigued to see if that extends its life.

Kill Zone 3, though?

Special.

It's an adult shooter. You can change the controls to "COD" controls, but it's far more complex than COD. At one point you may hold L2 to "cover", L1 to zoom, plus R2 to throw a grenade. It's almost combo like. And it makes Black Ops loos really arcadey, and child like by comparison.

The running mode too sticks it's middle finger up at Black Ops. It's immense. Immersive, as the screen judders. Need ammo/grenades? Then, in first person, you'll lean into the ammo case and refill. Leaving you open to a melee. And when I say melee I don't mean a desperate lunge ala Black Ops... I mean a slit throat. Maybe even a gouge of the eyes. This is pure Verhoevan, and it works brilliantly.

Climb a ladder? Again, expect judder. This is all about making you feel like you are the person controlling your character. It's really made me assess whether Black Ops ever gave you that, or COD in general. Need to give your team mate a boost up? Again, first person, including a swivel of the camera as you reach out your arm Cliffhanger style to pull them up.

Don't even get me started on the "slide". Running? Need cover? In the words of Tyler Durden... sliiiddddddeeeeee.

Multi player is immense too. Hard as nails. A ranking system with points/credits similar to COD.

Plus levels that look like they are straight out of Avatar or Private Ryan. It. Looks. Stunning.

And I haven't even mentioned the level that is played entirely on a slant as all of the buildings are crumbling away.

Or that a player on the other team could be posing as a member of your team, and you only know when it's too late... or piss your team off by shooting them. Just. In. Case. It creates a sense of drama, and paranoia. Adult stuff.

I may be in love a little bit.

The One With L.A Noire

I'll be at the cinema tonight, so no post.

In the back of my head, I'll be thinking about these words...

"This trailer was made entirely from game play footage".

What. The. Fuck.

Oh, and...

Colour me excited.

The One Where I Get To Win This Time

Like art attack. But better.

Meet my new Emblem on Black Ops. (Below, not above... although that's cool, too.)

The strange thing is, cool as this is, in game, I've never seen anyone with it.

Losers.

Whats better is now I rock the G11 (Cheers Flash), I have it red, so on the gun, the Emblem looks even better than it does on the Player Card. I could Prestige again, and may... but I'll enjoy the guns first I think.

I love Black Ops.

The One With The Game Of The Year 2011

My game of the year is tied. There's a couple of reasons. None more than the fact that both overcame massive adversity, and shoved it in the face of their doubters.

PES2011 and Black Ops will be in my PS3 for a long time yet.

Both still rough around the edges. Frustrating in the lack of detail at times. Then, moments of absolute genius. Moments of punching the air. Caring what happens. Any game that gets that sort of reaction is OK by me.

PES2011 works online, too. Incredibly well. I'm urging JMcG to sort it out, so we can do Masters League online. Then? Then I think the longevity just runs and runs.

It took a bit of work to put my own music on. To port the official kits over. Put chants on. But it's finished now. And brilliant.

Black Ops, similarly, with it's endless editing options will get me coming back for more. (Not until they patch it though). If JMcG thinks I'm losing my stats with out a fight, he can do one. You have until NYE Flash, to top my stats. Challenge accepted?

But why else do they tie? What else went on in 2010?

The One Where Black Ops Gets Lego'd

Why do I love LFF, so much?

Because they post cool shit like this.

How cool??

The One Where We've Come So Far, And Reached So High

I'll buy all three. The last one, probably to just trade it in within the day.

All of them have one thing in common... Incredible last shots. Brilliant.

So, basically... do one 2010. It's all about 2011!

The One With A Bit Of Everything...

So a recap on the day...

Daddy Day Care from yesterday. Friday, what to do? A new ball park, (with gas powered Gatling Guns!), and a huge glass wall, overlooking the train station. A good find from my Mum. He bloody loves it.

Saturday? Swimming!

Mrs T went off shopping, so we got in some serious swimming. He loves it. And I love taking him. It's great to get both in on the same weekend.

The fact that McDonalds duplicated our order made it possibly the greatest start to any day. Ever.

Then Prestiging. I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying Black Ops. The fact that I'm unusually good at it helps. I've always been pretty average/OK at COD games, not here. Twenty kills and three or four deaths is what I'm setting out for. My K:D is 1.52, and I want 2.0. I feel like I'm playing like that.

Prestiging means you lose all of your guns etc, but the in game currency means you can buy it all back. I didn't think I'd want to Prestige again... I'm not so sure,  now. My Accuracy, (my one thing I was better at on MW2 than anyone I know), is 21%. And it's going up.

We'll see. It could all be one big 30 hour fluke.

A bit like United. 7-1. Shades of Ipswich and Roma, destroying the opposition. Players like Anderson looking desperate not to be loaned out. Colour me impressed.

I may even lift my Match Of The Day ban, tonight. Even they won't be able to screw that up.

Plus I think I won some money on this one...

File it under "Bets AT can't win", Jambo.

The One With COD Black Ops

When you turn up for a midnight game launch, you don't expect too much.

In fact, you're probably a bit embarrassed. Especially if you're wearing gloves, like I was.

So when I turned up at Asda, I didn't expect to see 500 people.

It was almost like they knew this was going to be a bit special...

The One Where Pro Evo Is Better Than FIFA.... And The Vote Proves It!

FIFA 7 - Pro Evo 24

I'll be honest, this weeks vote was a bit of a balls up.

Gray suggested it had to be FIFA v Pro Evo.

I suggested with Tweetahon2, it should maybe be a skip week.

Then I thought... well, if he RTs it - we may be OK.

Then he didn't RT it. Not even once.

The One With My First Thoughts On Pro Evo - Pes2011

I remember seeing the first trailer on JMcGs stag, here.

God, I wanted to believe the marketing spin so much.

But I'd been burnt before.

I played the hell out of PES 2010. It was a flawed game, no question - made worse by FIFAs surge forward.

This year, Konami had to get it right. If not, it was curtains. I honestly believe that...

The One Where Its Pro Evo Day!

IT'S PRO EVO DAY!

THIS IS BETTER THAN CHRISTMAS.

See you again some day...

You can't do that in FIFA.

The One With FIFA 2011

"On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero."

This isn't humble pie, OK?

That would be next week, if PES 2011 (never called it that until this year. That's them damn twitter hashtags...) isn't what I think it will be.

And I still think it will be what I think it will be.

It's just after a day, and a full season on FIFA 2011, the gap that was suggested on the demo just isn't there.

It's a great game. Superb actually.

"I felt like putting a bullet between the eyes of every Panda that wouldn't screw to save its species. I wanted to open the dump valves on oil tankers and smother all the French beaches I'd never see. I wanted to breathe smoke."

The One Where ET Like To Move It, Move It.

Colour me impressed. And more importantly, colour ET impressed.

Grays review sold it too me. But not in the way you'd think.

He mentioned you could use the new Move controller on the XMB bar. He mentioned a lot more too, so go read that if you want to know what it is.

He did spark a *Lightbulb* moment, though.

So... It could be a Blu Ray remote? I've needed one for a while - especially after I took two Dual Shocks on JMcGs stag, and neither worked on return. (Jim... JIM... JIMMMM!)

It does that bit a treat.

But the gaming? Or the potential to game?

It's excellent. Especially that aircraft one I was addicted to for ages on the iPhone - it translates really well. Don't mention Heavy Rain. I spent twenty minutes downloading the normal version. Dick.

I can't wait to kick GCs ass at table tennis.

Show them how it's done, ET...

The One Where If You Own A 360, You Need To Get Halo Reach

"Don’t consider this a full review; consider it just a taste of my experience. Would you trust a movie review from someone who left the theater early?" - Jo Blo

Right, now I don't want to get labelled as a MW turn coat.

But...

After a fair few plays on this, I just have to applaud.

And whilst it would be unfair to compare it with Black Ops (MW2 is dead to me now) -  Something is undeniable. They will be compared.

And whereas I thought Halo would be the one that rather that wasn't the case... Well, now... I'm not so sure...

The One With Another Bale Rant

This is quite brilliant.

Plus it paves the way for my Halo thoughts, due up tomorrow.

I'll tell you about three key elements that are better than MW2/Black Ops.

Word of the day? Machinima!

The One Where FIFA Loses Because I Win 6-0

I've been looking forward to playing the FIFA demo.

Gray and I were in HMV mentally spending money.

A dummy FIFA box was there, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't think about buying it.

Mentally.

With money I don't have.

The One Where I Get Halo At Midnight

First impressions, after a few plays... you know at 1:15AM

First game was a veritable nightmare.

The One Where Pro Evo 2011 Comes Home

I loved Pro Evo 2010. I think that's well documented.

I loved it in spite of it's faults though. A few games on 2011 hammered that home.

Is love blind?

The One Where Black Ops Keeps Surprising

I have no idea how long I've suggested you should play for points (or money ) on video games.

Read more here, but doubters beware. There's not a bad word said.

Told you so.
