The One Were We Finally Chat Karate Kid

So, you voted, and we *did* go. Apologies for the delay. Here's a glimpse into Ledger banter, as JMcG and I discuss Karate Kid 2010. Is it the film to finally cause a divide... or do we just "like" everything...?

Me
Jon, you love the original Karate Kid. Whats the verdict on the remake?
9:46pm
better than expected. i thought this would be the film that would finally divide opinion but i guess not?
9:46pm
Me
Well, back in the day, when I streamed movies *I know, I know*, I half watched it, and it did nothing for me
But...
I really liked it at the cinema.
I think you summed it up by saying it's a better made film - no question
9:47pm
the power of cinema eh? James Horner's (not Howard Shore's) score sounded impressive
9:48pm
Me
Haha. I had Eclipse on my mind!
It did sound good though.
And "Say" by John Mayer is immense
Thanks for not mentioning the 12 yo, by the way. That could get me in a lot of trouble.
9:49pm
ha ha. no comment!
at least not for another 4 years or so anyway
9:50pm
Me
Yeah... Same here!
Thanks also for not mentionning the casual racism
9:51pm
i would implicate myself if i did. but your welcome
*you're*. FFS

Is the original as good as we think it is, anyway?
9:52pm
in my eyes it is. it has a special place in my heart but i can understand people thinking otherwise.
it just makes me feel nostalgic.
9:53pm
Me
I've still not got the Blu, but had heard it had aged. I agree though, it's a film of our generation. Nostalgic is the word.
What's the verdict on remake central?
Especially when KK is ABOUT KUNG FU, FFS!
9:54pm
they should have called it the Kung Fu kid but as far as remakes go, it was pretty good. A solid 3 star film
9:55pm
Me
Yeah. Agreed. (Unfortunateley).
Verdict on Will Smith Jr?
9:56pm
He is a future star, no doubt about that. He just needs to stay away from the Justin Beiber duets
9:57pm
Me
Ha. You're thinking of Sean Kingston, you daft racist...
9:57pm
dam.
9:58pm
Me
There was one bit that elevated it. The car scene where Jackie Chan.... ACTS!
I've never been a JC fan - but Jesus. He nailed that.
I saw a single tear, trickle down your cheek!
9:59pm
i'm not a fan of the Chan man either but that was a great scene!
and i had something in my eye you jerk!
10:00pm
Me
So... we have a problem...
10:00pm
the a-team thing?
10:00pm
Me
Yessir.
It's that, Knight and Day, and expendables...
All next week.
I've seen 2/3 of those, and knpw what I'll be seeing!
10:01pm
expendables is out the following week champ
10:01pm
Me
Previews Fri 13/14/15, "Champ"
10:02pm
i stand corrected.

10:02pm
Me
You make the call, but something is gonna give in our weekly film viewing!

I think I've got a copy of A-Team, somewhere....

I don't

10:03pm
what's this in my inbox?
10:04pm
Me
On that bombshell... Until next week... Or not....

10:05pm
Expendables next week is a must.
10:05pm
Me
Done, and done.

Oh... and a bit of John Mayer, to keep Judge happy.

I agree with Jon about the original. It hasn't aged well (I watched it again the day before I went to see the remake) but it *does* make you feel nostalgic. I still love it for that and I was worried that I'd hate the remake out of 'loyalty'. I wasn't going to go and see it but I was curious to see Jaden Smith's performance, because I'm a big fan of his dad ('s acting skills, yeah?). I thought it was great! The car scene made me well up too, Jon ;o) Overall I thought it was a really enjoyable rework of a good story and I loved the odd thing they threw in here and there that was identical to the original. I reckon Mr Miyagi would be proud. :o)

I think it was you, Mav, who said a mention of Pat Morita in the credits would have been nice. I agree.

Spot on Sarah.

It's far better than a lot of people will give it credit for, which is a shame.

I think the same about A-Team.

I get the remake thing being over indulged now, but there are some gems in there.

It didn't feel like 2hrs 20, either - which in itself is a compliment.

If a sequel gets green lit (and I'll be v surprised if it doesn't), I'll be there, day and date.

I agree. People will label this as "just another shoddy remake" when it deserves to get more credit than that. Acting was solid, score was excellent, fight scenes were impressive and the cinematography was stunning.

I was with you Sarah in that loyalty to the original would have made me dislike this but it didn't turn out that way.

And Sarah....I DID have something in my eye ;-)
