The One With COD Black Ops

When you turn up for a midnight game launch, you don't expect too much.

In fact, you're probably a bit embarrassed. Especially if you're wearing gloves, like I was.

So when I turned up at Asda, I didn't expect to see 500 people.

It was almost like they knew this was going to be a bit special...
Apologies to anyone on the smart phone App. There's a few pictures, and that App will only let you see the first one.

I suppose for a first impression I should just be honest.

This is my favourite COD game so far.

Yes, that may have something to do with the fact that I've started really well. (No fluke, I like to think. I was vastly improved o n MW2 towards the end).

But trading the predecessor in early was a masterstroke for me.

It made me crave this even more.

What they've done, is merged the best elements of MW2 and World At War, into one giant cluster fuck.

And it works brilliant.

As a stat fan. I'm in heaven.

There are graphs to show spikes in my performance. What guns I'm good with. How many times I've been shot in the nads... All added on to what we're used too. Highest kill streak etc.

Really interestingly, putting the KD on the third page of stats seems to send a message... Don't get hung up on your stats. Enjoy the game.

And it works. I've genuinely enjoyed it.

The detail on the maps is brilliant, despite it not necessarily having the clinical finish of MW2.

Nuke Town is genius. Mannequins scaring you at every corner. Brilliant. Then, next door, the water sprinkler sprays above the fence. It all feels real.

There are still locked doors, but for once, I feel like I could blow them down, such is the interaction with the scenery.

Granted, you still can't destroy walls... But... throw a grenade, and the room will shake. Pictures fall off the wall. The detail is brilliant.

Then we come to my beloved Clan.

We are going to have so much fun with this it's ridiculous.

Creating a clan tag is genius. And there will need to be a board meeting Saturday night, as to how we represent ourselves.

But engraving LEDG on my gun?

It's like a gift from the gods.

The level of customisation is brilliant.

I'm under no illusions that I'm doing well (for me), because I earned credit, then bought Claymores immediately. It's a great idea. Some people won't even touch them.

What they've also done is level the playing field.

Scavenger means I don't ever get more than one Claymore... but crucially, you can move the one Claymore you do have.

It works really well.

Don't get me started on the dogs, though. The bastards.

When I first went up in the Chopper Gunner, everything just seemed to have more of a kick. It may be that my 7.1 surround sound is finally as it should be. But it all just felt more solid. More real.

I'm taking a break.

Something tells me I may be going back on later...

You've just got me excited about playing it for the first time. I've read reviews, but none of them from the same viewpoint I would be playing it. Can't wait to get home now... I'm just gutted I've got some shit wedding to get ready for this weekend and I can't play all week.

I will have a quick go tonight but will also have to practice, and the same tomorrow night, and I may get to have a go on Thursday morning sometime.

Dude, Nice blog.
Are you on 360 or ps3?

I got mine in a London Tesco last night. Only 50 or so people turned up for around 20 copies on 360 and 10 on ps3. People were not impressed. One woman bought 2 copies for her kids xmas presents!
I love it. The more I play it the better it seems to get!

Cheers fella.

I have both consoles, but game mostly on ps3.

I can't believe everyone turned out at an Asda in a small town in Hampshire - that's mental!

I'm loving it too. Secretly, I'm loving it even more, as there seems to be a lot of people that were class at MW2 that are struggling!! ;-)

(Oh, and you like the page on FB, you'll get regular updates!)
